Loves Tears

I was six
when I first cried loves tears -
she was five
and they where moving away.
~
My heart broke.
~
I dug a hole beneath the Willow Tree
where we always sat and held hands,
punctured my thumb with a needle,
looked in her eyes,
said I Love You,
let part of my heart
fall to the bottom of the hole -
buried it there,
forever.
~
I never saw her again.
~
I loved many times after that
but not enough to cry again
until I was fifteen.
This time love was right,
special,
forever lasting.
~
I never saw her again.
~
Then I met a woman,
we were twenty-something,
and we loved like angels love wings,
red loves apples,
the sun loves to shine.
We were inseparable,
each living only for the other,
the perfect couple it was said.
~
I didn't know what crying was, till then.
~
Years ago I met you.
Sparks flew,
passion knew no bounds.
We loved as lovers,
friends,
husband and wife,
companions forever.
I've loved you from the first,
through our children,
the tears we've both shed,
and I love you now
as you lay sleeping
in the arms of God.
~
I didn't know what crying was, till now.
~
I didn't know what crying was…
till now.

And now you've made me cry, but not to worry, I'll be OK.  Will you? This is so sad. I hope you find some comfort in putting this into words. But you know what? A man who allows himself to cry openly is a great  treasure. Hugs to you. Now, let's go have a another cup of coffee at dgvarner's.

I think it's great that a man can cry openly...show his sensitive side.  Big hugs to you tonight.  Nancy.

Hey - not me, my friends - just my words, my wife still kicks me in bed every night so I know she's there (hee hee)- but I love her anywho! Guess I need to prefix these things with a disclaimer - again, not me - writing what I hear, see, and what I think I'd feel in their shoes.

Thanks much for your concern though and Nan, coming from you that's special to me.

Excellent write and I'm glad it's not you.   I, too, enjoy writing in someone else's shoes, at times, instead of my own. Sometimes the best writes I've done is in what I see and hear. Again, great job

DGV - I'm plumb happy for your brother - I hope it was a top-notch pot-o-brew!  (we've put away SOME coffee in the last couple days haven't we!)

jwesley - how well I know what you mean when we write the things we feel, yet cannot see. Some are happy, some sad, some funny, and some bad. But we write, and if it touches someone, we have written well...

~Aw J,...I held my heart the entire time. This grips it, I don't know how you stir someone like this without it being your direct experience. - Before I read your reply to it (with the little explanation), I was just sitting here, thinking about you, and feeling helpless. - Hope you're well. *Peace.

So glad these words are not your personal experience, however, you have captured the bittersweet of love perfectly!

Well, you had me worried at first too! You sure do write feelings well.
That first stanza grabbed me right away, I was 6 when I first felt loves tears, too.
Awesome emotional write.

As we write, the subjects that we feel may not be our own, but we sometimes forget that there are many many people out there who read our words, and I am sure that you touched someone very deeply with the emotions in this writing...someone will find needed release in your loving words...

...you are me, I am you, we are one...

It's great when a person has experienced love...but also knows it's okay to cry!

Poetry is spiritual ventilation!

My dear friends of Passions.  Though the circumstances may not be mine I try to feel every emotion I try to put into the words and lines and this piece touched deeply as it was written around people I tried to comfort in the circumstances stated -

Thought maybe I'd share how this developed (maybe you don't want to hear it but...)- it took about twenty-minutes to write and this is the original version.

The title sparked the whole thing - heard the words "...tears of love" while listening to the radio (was on passions at the time matter of fact) and I put Love Tears down and built the rest around it.

The first couple stanzas involving the six year old came from my own six year old experience (though digging the hole and burying the blood drops was made up); the fifteen year old is just a compilation of the many loves of many teens that we all see, hear, feel - ; and the twenty-somethings was an actual event with a couple I knew; and
the toughest was the death at the end; though it is husband and wife in design - the event in mind at the writing was mother, daughter - the daughter having died with cervical cancer and was a deeply emotional funeral.

Anyway, that's how it evolved, (see it truly isn't me!) though when writing like this I feel (and cry at times while writing) every emotion I try to embue in the words, and really feel good when I know the feelings come across to you guys.

Hope I didn't destroy your feelings for the piece now...

Thanks much for all your kind words.

jimmy
