Time for Cheer

The holiday’s coming, and lights being strung
After Thanksgiving’s feast, the mad rush has begun
There are candles in windows and bells in the street
And it’s time to make everyone’s favorite treat

Time for wrappings and ribbons, for carols and cards
For tinsel and snowmen and sparkling stars
Crowds on the sidewalk and through kitchen door
Each year footsteps grow just a little bit more

Friends stopping in and some parties to come
Laughter and children and presents and fun
I’m surrounded with love in a world of my own
Why do I feel so completely alone?

I think it’s the season when you said goodbye
And found a new peace in the blue of the sky
Though it’s been a whole year since you left me this way
There are so many things that I wanted to say

And now as the carols sing loud in my ear
It is only the angels of glory I hear
I know that you’re there in a far better place
But my tears will not stop as I think of your face

I sit all alone in my room as I pray
And hope that you know what I’m trying to say
For this is the season of peace and of love
And I hope you are witnessing all from above

Two little grandchildren born of a star
I wonder if you know how precious they are

Grieving takes however long it takes!  It seems that holidays always brings our emotions right to the surface and for a good reason - so we don't stuff them down deep inside and not deal with them.  The Creator saw fit to allow for those feelings to be kept in things called memories (I can it my memory book).  In memories, we store the photographs of our heart to keep them safe so we can bring them out and look at them on days we need to see them or comfort.  Sometimes one just needs to have one of those days where those mental photographs warm the soul no matter how much love they are surrounded by. The more memories, the more the person's spirit stays with you.  I have always liked to think that when I get sad missing someone, that they in fact were lonely that day too, and brought out their memory book too perhaps, and were thinking of me.

I related to this one obviously, and know the feeling well.  Extremely well written.
