Listening to every heart

From the Journal, April 16, 1970, #3

And now, now that you’ve left
I pass into a state of remembrance;
what did you give to me?

The blazing coals of a fading fire
eye me as I search back
into dark recesses
of future gone by ~

step up into a room of
vast emotions and emptiness, I’m only
18 years hence since my story has begun.

Shelves are filled with volumes of ledgers,
blank paged ledgers.

Over in the Eastern corner (turn, turn,
where is there a semblance of
direction?) where a pale, heavenly light
shines,

this is where my 18 years comes up to ~
one ledger for each year ~
how many shall I fill?

Moses filled more than 400 ledgers.

Ah, here is today, half-written ~

did I really long for you so desperately?
well, I presume, since it is written.

But yesterday, and on past, how beautiful
the handwriting of my Guardian ~

Here, there’s last year’s ledger,
let me see, ~
(Guardian, you see more than I from
within this room.)

Is this the day I fell in love?
And here is where I admitted my emotions?
So much time lapsed!
So much time….

Guardian, please, have you any way of knowing
how long he and I shall remain together?
Oh, you might as well tell me when I shall
leave Earth, for all that you know.

He put you here to record,
not foretell ~
but I wish I knew.

It grows cold…
my eyes open, the embers have cooled
and darkened.

Outside my body wavering walls seem to shiver
with cool dampness.
It seems that embers are still
glowing in my heart,
keeping my Guardian warm in the little
room above.

and we walk with you, as you walk back. . . looking forward. . .

simply wonderful. . . there is much wisdom here, many questions. . . hopefully, there were answers . . .

This is a very thoughtful, meaningful write. As for myself, I'm of eighteen years as of now.. just makes me think, you know?

Hmmmm, very thought provoking - and well written (as usual). Got me to digging back under all the dust and webs and leaves and other garbage in my head (most call it memories but I'm more truthful - Ha!) - and guess I'll have to see what I've got at the piles bottom in my closet from my REAL early years (nothing up to the the par of this - I know!)

Really enjoyed walking with you K.
