Come Gentle Night

by Michael

Come gentle night,
surround me with your starry cloak.
Ease my fears
and bring the peace of cricket  songs.

Dead orb of light,
dear crescent moon,
bathe me in your ivory hue.
Close my eyes,
that I might dream of blissful times
which are no more.

The damp of dew,
the ivory hue,
the cloak of stars
I know as friends.
I ask that they will comfort me
and when I wake that I be cleansed.

Michael,
This is beautiful.  It's a prayer for sure, something we should utter each night before sleep.
Thank you for this.

Hi Michael--

"The damp of dew,
the ivory hue,
the cloak of stars
I know as friends.
I ask that they will comfort me
and when I wake that I be cleansed."

a beautiful poem, sad, yet filled with the hope of a new day to come.  Would that we could all fall asleep and wake, cleansed...loved this thought!

Beautiful Michael.

the cloak of stars
I know as friends.
I ask that they will comfort me
and when I wake that I be cleansed

It's amazing the power that friends have to make a dark night brighter.

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

Michael, so nice to read your thoughts tonight. And I will gladly cloak you in midnite's sun, to keep you warm throughout the night. Warm hugs to you.

I know as friends.
I ask that they will comfort me
and when I wake that I be cleansed.

Free the feelings burning within
The globe of friendship spins, full
Intertwining rings round, sleeping prince
halos of bursting stars, warming cloak

{Hugs} Great poet!

Come, gentle night, with imagery superb
that once again, sweet night, softer words are heard
into the rain of yesterday, amid the sun of morrow
come, gentle night, release me of all sorrow...

oops, got inspired...

Michael,

Just beautiful.  I love night, the comfort of darkness, the moon. It is usually a time of peace for me. This one is going in my library.

Hugssss to you
