Listening to every heart

0 posted 2001-11-24 08:44 AM

From the Journal – 1968 – #1

A hush falls quietly over the
hot and humid ground
and a silent breeze threads through
the hills and meadows,

the quietness is beautiful
and still;

giving one time to think of the past,
present, and tomorrow.

Memories, actions and
dreams fill the heart and mind
with many serene hopes.

The darkness grows,
and with it, a silent humbleness.

A lull of solitude
realizing that one is alone
in this world of darkness, this night.

Yet, not alone, as the
breeze strengthens and whips
the sounds of crickets chirping
to one’s ears.

The howl of wolves baying outside
to the moon gives one an
eerie feeling.

The warm earth finally gives
her life its sleep, and the
quietness turns still,
the coolness of the dark
sky falls downward.

All sleep.

you were a poet even then..beautiful...my thoughts of those years were sadder, maybe it was the times, Viet Nam...my first love
(the one I eventually married) across the world...no peace to be had...I amost feel the repetition but of loss...not of waiting

memories, some good, some bad, but all make us who we are today.

A really good description here. This must be a summer's night that you're describing, what with the crickets' chirping...

Wow! This one's timeless. "68" had me at a Jefferson Airplane concert and much more, some good memories and some not but all contribute to my being. This poem has a wisdom that I've only recently attained. Enjoyed.
