I bow my head in silent prayer
I give thanks for all you’ve done
though the list is long this year
your name resides as number one

You gave wings to my grounded soul
freed my heart from its restraint
you nurtured my desire to give
and suffered me without complaint

You were there when my need was great
and when I didn’t know I needed you
you gave me something no other could
and asked not what I would do

You inspired me to be better
to be kinder, gentler, more forgiving
by your standard, I’ve seen the way
to consummate poetic living.

You may wonder who touched me so
but never realize it was you my friend
I’ll not tell this secret to anyone
just thank you, here at the end.
