You whispered words of love,
sweet words, of a love so true.
Now I need to know how
to make it without you.
You said you couldn’t live
without me by your side.
You didn’t find it hard
to leave the past behind.
What was it that I did
to make you turn away?
Tell me what I can do
to change your mind today.
Your offer of friendship
was accepted willingly.
I only took from you
what you freely gave to me.
When you offered me love
I took too long to decide.
Now when I need you most
you’re not here by my side.
What was it that I did
to make you turn away?
Tell me what I can do
to change your mind today.

Sometimes all we can do is accept things for what they are.  Nothing you could ever do could change this person's mind.  They are the only one who can do that.  It isn't about you, it's about them.  Good write.

All writing comes
by the grace of God.

Feed me chocolate.

Dee, sweet lass....
Very good honest write. I believe friends can be far and not always available but if you keep them close to your heart then they are always near.

Sudhir, I know good things can be just around the corner or on the other side of the world. I just have to have patience.

Kit, thank you. It surprises me sometimes what deep thought can bring about.

Lone Wolf, I am what I am and I would never change for anyone.

So tell me Parker, what sort of chocolate?
I have found true friends are always there in spirit at least.

Sven, I am slowly moving on......  Thanks.

Thank you all. Your encouragement means a lot to me.

Why do we hesitate to say what we feel?
Are we sure?  Love has so many questions
within those four letters of a single word.

it's never easy when one changes their mind and the other doesn't....

hurts...

you wrote it well..

the most important thing is that the love which was shared will never really die... but will always live within both hearts... forever... the memories will stay alive

to treasure that and move forward is the only answer

thanks for a pensive, emotive read

Magnus, so many questions and so few answers

Doreen, I think the hardest part is moving on.

Janet, I guess we will learn eventually.

There is a path that will rise to meet you and take the pains away. It is all just a matter of not giving up on finding that path.  You expressed your feelings well in this piece but then again, you usually do.  I am truely delighted to have found one by you as your cadence and style are always in the elite class of poets.  Well written and so very honest as well and DON'T EVER GIVE UP HOPE.  Be well my friend.
