Camp Shower

One mile upstream, or slightly more,
a bridge connects deep woods
with a scattering of cabins
and a rustic, general store. Tourists,
distinguished from the fly fishermen
by open-neck shirts, gold medallions,
and, when female, perfume
left unattended in the aisles
with wood matches and lantern fuel,
lounge out front licking exotic ice cream
from cones that narrow to a point.
Breasts, with Indian Summer, line the porch
like a row of judges about to interrogate motive
as I step from my pick-up and approach
in hip boots that stop short of the crotch.
Looking from left to right
I cough, either from shyness
or as a response instinctive to close examination.
Later, standing in a shower
makeshift with clothesline and blankets,
I listen as the river chats
with Autumn wearing bright and short,
rustling dryly down the path.

I would love to experience this, it has all of the feelings I love, the outdoors, nature,
the seasons. It seems to be what I first loved writing about. I really enjoyed reading this.

Hallo, old friend.

I love the outdoors.  You've written of them well, RMW.

Bob, your visits too few and too far between.  Remembrances of many fishing trips
