Quilt of Darkness

by Michael

Darkness wraps itself around me
as a quilt,
but one that provides
no warmth.

Those burning pinpricks of evening
stare stupidly down
on lives
that walk and are sometimes forced to crawl
upon this earth.

The moon,
nothing more than a dead orb,
caught
in this planet's gravitational pull,
foolishly circling
a dying world.

The sun rises, I throw off the quilt
and once again pretend that all is well.

The cold darkness of winter can indeed feel like a quilt that provides no warmth. Yet even in the darkest of nights, I find the beauty of starlight and moonbeams dancing on the trees and the fences, and somehow, it warms my heart.

Glad to see you posting, and I enjoyed this one very much, Michael.

Very profound write, Michael.  I wonder how many people do this very same thing day in and day out.  I know I too have been guilty.

Sad thoughts Michael, but beautifully written. It’s all in how you see life. You can see the darkness around, or choose to see the light. I prefer the light myself, I hope you will one day too my friend.
