the only difference between
yesterday and today is a syllable
and twenty-four hours that passed by
with nothing significant to mention

amazing, is it not?

that day welcomes the night
and the night invites day back
as if this were a rule,
some social obligation

bewildering, to say the least

just like a child complaining
mommy, i hit him because
mommy, he called me names
i just finished what he started

who is to get the blame?
not me, it's maybe you?

but, why? who gains?
not me, not you.

just an increasing divide
stares back uglily at us

the 'we' have reached the pits,
unfathomable depths.

so much so that
we need the brightness
of a hundred million suns
to enlighten us
and bring us back from the depth
to rise from the dead
like the phantoms
or maybe the phoenix

that won't happen
so,

may the 'we' should rest in peace
or maybe rust in pieces

let bygones be bygones
as the elders say
and leave them bones to be buried
only then, there is a chance
for tomorrow to live like a child
excitedly free and in frolic,
uninhibited, with an ignorance
that governs the happy mind

the only glitch comes from
these darn memories

...

Wouldn't it be interesting... I wonder what would happen if we could pull the plug on the memory machine of history and current events, and start all over again, with the radical premise that all beings are created equal, that all beings have a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, that everyone should have food and shelter, that there be no wars, no weapons of mass destruction, no guns, no hatred, no fear?
Maybe it's just the hour, just before 1AM here, that is making me ramble.
A well written, thought provoking write, Sudhir.
