"WAITING FOR THE NOVOCAINE TO FADE"

Copyright 2001 by: MARK V SHELDON

loquaciously incapacitated by a
temporary stroke

of patience -- a hesitation in
eloquence since it's not

like me
to speak in tongues

serving my sentence
with numbing sibilance

a gap filled with
resonating detachment

a countenance counting the
moments of penance for

years of sugar-coated food
for thoughtless utterances that

slide from my face in finite facades
it will take more than

an apathetic needle to
prod me into tender semantics

this time

Thanks a lot, Mark!  you just had to remind me I need to get to a dentist next week. And I'm avoiding the visit like the plague.
Good poem though. Novacaine left you speechless, but not word-less.

Thanks, Sandra.  This was inspired by exactly what the title says -- I figured that I may as well channel it into something productive...

Kacy, some things need to be drilled in:  like not neglecting dental visits.

Nothing like letting em stick it to ya,
and then you get the bill and they're
sticking it to ya again while your tongue
is still thick.

Blues Serenade:  ...and then we're told to just stick to it...  Talk about a sticky situation!  Thanks for the read, reply, & smile.
