He gave me a gun.
A .22,
and promised he'd teach
me just how to shoot.
He gave me a gun
and it fit my hand,
but it won't fit my heart--
I don't understand.
He said "I won't be here"
to protect you at night."
He gave me a gun,
but it doesn't feel right.
"Weapons don't suit me."
I said in protest.
He said, "Take the gun,
and maybe you'll rest--
sleep better at night
when the shadows play games."
He gave me a gun.
Now I'll never feel safe.

Some collect items, to have and to hold,
Just possession, makes them feel safe or bold,
But those with none, seemingly sleeping sound,
Without a gun, unprotected and poverty bound,
Nothing holds them, since everything’s sold,
Everything gone, only valued life is found.

WOW!!! I can see how this can make you feel so uneasy. **hugs** he meant well, I am sure. He feared for your safety not realising your fears.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

I sleep secure with only a state of mind...hopely you do not live in that bad of a neighborhood where you must possess a gun for protection...in some neighborhoods and in some countries almost everyone carries a gun...it depends on how you were raised.James

PG---it just doesn't feel right. I know he thought it would make me feel safer, but it doesn't. Thank you for understanding.

Carol Lina....I am ready to give up the gun AND the man...lol--thanks for all of your kindness!

Sy...I love ya much, you know that? Man of few words, ya just know there's a story behind this one, doncha?

Startime...you just don't know. Maybe you do.
but it sickens me just to hold the danged thing...sigh...thanks for reading.

dor....not giving it back, he doesn't need a gun either!!!! Not sure what I'm going to do...I just know I'm far too jumpy and emotional to be a responsible gun owner. And if he only knew how many times I've seen HIM through cross-hairs, he wouldn't have done that! (that's a joke people!)

James, I live in a great people, unfortunately, it's not the strangers I fear, but the people I grew up with!

All politics aside, I respect the rights of others, but I KNOW better than to put a weapon in this home....sigh...

THANKS ALL. love you!

We fortunately have much tighter gun control laws over here.  Guns frighten me...get rid of it Karen!  Now...I have goosebumps thinking about it!  Police are about the only ones to carry guns up here.

You don't have to shoot, you can always bumb him on the head with it

Great poem though

I wouldn't like it either, Karen.  They scare the heck out of me.  Especially with all the stories of people accidentally shooting someone or themselves.  This is scary for sure!

I love the point you make here, serene one. I'm a firm believer that certain things attract situations. It's astounding to me how many situations seem to occur requiring the use of a gun after the person involved has gotten access to one. Get rid of the darned thing. You are dangerous enough without one
