Firm grip on death
Seen in many battles
Life slipping from hands
Ending breath in mind

Eyes holding last memories
Arms embracing what's left
Living hell in grasp
Wars not fought misunderstood

Freedom cherished by soldier
Civilians taking for granted
Courage that saved them
From evils never met

Drum beat goes on
Rhythms of unknown ignorance
Played out in apathy
While the brave die
