House and Garden

He wears nothing
as he searches the house for her face,
it was there yesterday,
clear in his mind,
but this morning it’s gone,
he curses a thimble brain,
hunts for her photograph.

He overturns books
and frayed magazines,
tears through old kitchen drawers
leaves them all akimbo,
checks under the bed,
in the linen closets,
quickly pulls the inconvenient ladder
leading to the attic,
opens a worn green suitcase
filled with pictures;
there she is
at the top,
in Kodak color.

Touching her cheeks
gently, he
holds her face to his breast,
rubs dust from the garret window,
sees the flower bed he planted
is in need of care;
it is early spring
and the tulips are rising
above her face once so fair.

Corinne, this is an incredible piece!  The imagery is superb..the entire write just pulls the reader in and then hits them with that sad ending...as I said incredible!
Enjoyed reading this!

This one tugs at my heartstrings with sweet remembrance and longing.  Nicely done.
