Angel wings
Gentle as the morning dew
Touching my empty heart
Once cold and hardened
By the winter snow
Now brimming, overflowing
With warmth and happiness

I look into your loving eyes
Not a word spoken, with my eyes
I ask how can this be so
With only your gentle smile
Your voice echoing in my mind
"because you are and
will always be my friend"

searching within my very soul
How can I, a lowly creature
Be worthy of such a wondrous gift
This loving woman who must see
Something beyond the darkness
who loves the man I am inside
rather than what can only be seen

If it were in my power
I would pluck the brightest star
From the heavens above
And give this gift to you
with a string of gold
I would hang it from your neck
to keep it next to your loving heart

for you are a bright star
shining in my night sky
giving this lowly poet hope
where none was before
so I thank the lord above
For bringing you into my life
An angel sent from heaven
A true friend, always

This poem expresses the full meaning of the phrase "that's what friends are for".

Being a good friend, she hasn't given up hope on you, and you shouldn't think yourself to be a lowly poet, coz you're not!
