~*~ The Golden Years ~*~

Your familiar gait appears in the shadows,
and instantly the sound of your footsteps
become the metronome that still beats in my heart.
On this velvet moonlight night, as star facets
cut through the sky like lasers of diamonds,
your gentle eyes and weathered fingers graze over
my beleaguered heart kindling the sparks
so long ago buried in these ashes of my years.

I touch the recessed tracks upon your leathered face
that mirror the high and low roads we’ve traveled,
the ships we sailed for a glimpse of our dreams.
Do I dare touch you, embrace you?
I fear the chance of gain is more in measure
than the very loss of this yearning.

My body, though lacking the grace of the young,
still trembles at the searing touch of your hands,
and passion is inspired by its flame.
Will you care that perfection of form lies now behind us?
Does it matter if we can't perform as expected
as when the dance to the music was so bold,
and perfect, leaving us with new knowledge
of each other’s form, heart and soul?

You smile at me and stroke my hair.
My pen trembles as I touch you
now only with these few words of love
instead of my desiring body.
I am older, not old, and want you to understand
my need for your softness pressed against me,
surprising me in its fierce boldness.
I have waited a lifetime to whisper to you
in the darkness of these our golden years,
that I love you and still melt at your touch.

*This time the graphic doesn't go very well with what I wrote but I just adored this when I saw it.
It is by David Falconer, and called "Parking Meter Romance".

The music is "Memories" from Cats

~*~ Thank You ~*~

Stuff and nonsense.  I think the picture brings the words together quite well...

and of course you've touched a heart again...

Sharon, the graphic is a true symbol of what you portrayed in this very well penned piece of work.... The flow of this fine write is like oceanic waves kissing the shores of their golden memories.... I've always admired the elderly holding hands and just being with one another. It's the kind of love that words need not be spoken but, a touch a glance and they are young once again. I would add this to your new web site with much confidence. applause with a lot of admiration for a great poet. Love and peace Maggie ((~.~))

Sharon--This is so sensitively done...You show this love with the tender pen of an artist.  Just beautiful from start to finish, including graphic.  Hugs to your heart!

Thank you all for reading this one as it holds a special spot in my heart.  I work with seniors and you just have to see what "real love" is all about when you see these senior men and women coming to visit their spouses in the extensive care unit.  I volunteer by helping with activites, and hold poetry readings on Thursdays, so I see "the real McCoy", but a constant complaint they have is that after 50 or so years the romance seems to go away, and they want that back!!!!  How cute is that?  So I had to write something for them to give their husbands and wives a hint, to "sugar and spice" up their "mischief life".  Thanks again you are all very supportive.

Sharon ~ this was such an exquisitely spoken and tenderly flowing message that reflects the beauty of a love that survives the storms of time...interwoven with delicate whispers to remind how the heart and spirit still yearns for the touches and embraces that fade through the journey of life.
So very beautiful, my sweet friend, and so deeply touching.
Hugs and much love to you, always, ~*~dawn~*~

As Henry and Katherine showed us, you're never too old to "suck face".

The physical may go but I've seen people in their 90's as romantic as ever....true love is a state of mind that never grows old
