Chosen to be a Grandpa!
By Larry Chadwick

My wife has been a Grandma for some time
Though that was her day and not really mine
She was so excited and especially  proud
I couldn’t stop her from shouting out loud

And so Grandma it was and Larry for me
Assuming that was how it always would be
Longing for the time that we could play
Finally, they chose to come our way

The eldest was such a precious doll
He and Larry really did have a ball
So when it was time to say good bye
Both he and Larry heaved a big sigh

Then one day Kyle finally saw the light
Larrys Gramdmas’ husband, am I right?
Then I don’t think it is against the law
I would like to call him my Grandpa

So it was a phone call he placed right away
Eager to speak the word that he had to say
He asked Grandma if he could talk to me
With eager anticipation it was about to be

“Hey Grandpa! How are you doin’?”
After that he certainly had me cooin’,
I don’t think I heard the rest he had to say,
‘Cause, I actually became a Grandpa today.

It was Kyle's decision this year at the age of five.

Well aren't you struttin! That's great Larry, and I can see you beaming all the way across the Rockies and Canada too.
Congratulations Grandpa!

Can I call you Gramps too?

Good for you, Gramps
but I think I'll stick with Larry
the thought of you as relative
just way, way, way too scary!

Karen,
Thanks! I waited patiently for five years. He lives in Michigan and finally came to visit. Won him over in one trip. Was I ever excited.

Peaches,
Hey, welcome to Passions. So glad you stopped in for a read. You are so right, what a delight.

Michael,
I'm poppin' buttons all over the place. Thanks. So true, so true!

Oh this is so very sweet. I'm happy for you. That means a lot, when a little one loves you so much.

Oh Larry ... this was such a wonderful story, and wrapped in cadence and rhyme ... just delightful!  Anyone can be called Grampa from the start ... but it takes a special man to "earn" that honour, so YOU my friend, are a special man indeed to Kyle!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Larry...I just loved this!  Since I just had my first grandaughter, I have been pondering what she will call me.  I think I too, will leave it up to her.  I know how much this pleased your heart to hear those words.  Hugs!

Sandra,
Yup it means a bunch! Thanks.

Kit,
Thank you, thank you. He is a special little guy. What fun!

Laura,
Thank you so much. Glad you stopped by.

Martie,
Well, being a step-grandson I didn't think I had a right to be pushy. But what an honor. And congratulations!

Ah, so this is where the grandpa reference came from. Glad I didn't miss it. I had a step-grandfather (lived to 96), and for 30some years, I was glad to call him my granddad. He was the best. I've no doubt Kyle will love you every bit as much as I did my grandad.

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

Tracey,
I wondered if you'd find this. Thanks. You're the best!   How lucky to have a grandpa that long. I sure miss mine. But that's another poem.
