Lest We Forget

He Passes The Torch

His face was lit the day he went
Knowing freedom he would defend
Not thinking of the blood that's spent
The torch held by him and a friend

They put the gun into his hands
Training him only how to kill
Sending to fight in foreign lands
No time to think that blood he'd spill

All around is pain to be heard
As fear and death assault his ears
Frozen faces with silent word
Dying so many young in years

His face still lit, his time is spent
Freedom is bought, his life did spend
Knowing it all the day he went
He passes the torch to his friend

Powerful thoughts here Karen. Such sadness that there is even a need to pass a torch like this on. If only there were no need for fighting in this world....if only.

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

Wow, Karen.  Great work here.  Too many times this is the harsh reality of war that many of us don't realize is closer than we think.  Very intriguing write.

Karen...you have so well expressed some of
the feelings of the brave young men who over
time have gone to battle for freedom and
democracy....The young women too...as well
as the civilians behind the lines who helped
us get the job done....

We must remember all of these heroes and
what they have endured...through all of the
wars back through the centuries...

Sadly,  so many of our older vets are dying
each day....and many of them feel that they
have now been forgotten....

If you know one....and they live near...just
call and simply say thank you....that
you have not forgotten....

I called my father and told him thank you
for what he did for our country....You
should have seen the spark in his eyes,
as well as a tear...knowing that someone
understood and cared....

Thanks much for posting this rememberence
poem...You have said it well.

Tbrins tears to my eyes. I hate this part of our world, the need to fight and kill eachother. And so sad for those that have to go through it personally.
God bless all of them.
