I watched her pull the heavy laden suitcase on the bus.
Counting every penny of the fare with such a fuss.
I greeted her and smiled asking how she was today.
Knowing I'd opened floodgates on all she had to say.

She looked at me and smiled saying "Life is good I guess."
"It wouldn't do me any good complaining" she confessed.
She rattled on about the day and how nice it had been.
But saying she could feel that soon the cold would settle in.

We chatted 'bout the people as I manuevered through the streets.
Drove through rain that washed the dirty filth from the concrete.
For hours back and forth through town I drove the city bus.
At times was filled to overflow, other trips it was just us.

She napped a while to the rocking cadence of the wheels.
The sun rose like a quiet thief past the shadows that it steals.
I yawned and told her it was time for me to end my day.
She smiled as she watched the evil dark turn into gray.

I watched her pull the heavy laden suitcase off the bus.
Counting all her shopping bags and making such a fuss.
I watched with sadness as she took her things and sat right there.
Seeing more then words could say in her ancient homeless stare.

With perseverance even the snail reached the Ark.

They are heart-wrenching and you have captured it so very well.
Sensitive piece indeed

This is so sad, but very good. It breaks my heart to see people having to live on the street.

this, this is a sadness I can and never will understand I guess. To think of someone with no home, no food and living on the street.
I thank God for a warm home and a turkey dinner soon....and for the other blessings he has given me. We do not know but one day we may indeed be in their shoes.
