If I could touch the hand of poetry just once a night
all my thoughts would be spilled
and I would be rested.
These thoughts, like love letters to my desire
just drown me, enveloping every moment
I have to share in unbridled need.
When people ask me what I write
I tell them poetry, and now that is even an understatement.
What to say to those with a curiosity about this talent that is my breath?
Shall I tell them I write, not poetry, but detailed testimonies of my heart and soul
filling moments with explanation of moments.
I walk daily on the edge of collapsing on the ground
in thanks to God for every second felt
every measurement of things seen by my eyes
and every sound heard by these all too sensitive ears.
I yearn to make more expression than these written words
and to be great in my endeavour to achieve
the ability to give my words to multitudes
of souls that yearn the same
and share this great and complicated humanity with me.
What can I say when they ask me what I write?
Shall I say what I write is every measure I can muster of my passion,
and that even that is sometimes not sufficient?
The ground I walk on is made of words and I am succeptible to every emotion
amplified a thousand times louder within my patient heart.
When they ask me what I write I tell them
Poetry
and then
I try to convey that I also breathe it
that I would sleep with a pen and write on my sheets
were dreams to come that move me enough.
that I would give up the company of greater loves
to be in the sole company of whispering papers
and be a voyuer to the passion of my pen and any surface that would embrace it.
No
Poety is not word enough
for what lives and breathes after the blood of my pen has been spent.
And the many years, days, and hours that I have spent in search
is not worthy enough time to have put in
that I should be given the power
of such descriptive gifts.
So for now
I write poetry.
It is the vehicle for my written whims
and the love that keeps me living.
No truer love have I ever known,
but that of God
and my poetry.

Sometimes the heart needs the solace of solitude and silence.

This, this is a tribute and a masterpiece to any poet anywhere. It is a glorious indication of a soul who has embraced and cherishes the right and the freedom of expression and the gift she has. I applaud you and thank you for posting this. It is one of the truly most indepth pieces relating to poetry and why we write it and I would like to thank Ron for having this forum so that people can come here and express themselves.

and thank you for this one.

No...you don't write poetry....you write your
heart,  your soul,  you inner feelings,
desires, needs.  You write everything that is
felt....and yes...is poetry....and music.

many, many, many, of your poems have i read before, but none so great as this one.  not even close.  this is a wonderful piece of...poetry...or whatever it is that you write...
if i had your pen and your paper, i WOULD sleep with it at night.
i enjoyed this so much that i have printed it out to hang on my wall...and when someone reads it, i will watch with regret...regretting that i was not the author.

as i started to sign-off tonight, i realized that as i thought about how beautiful this poem was and what it meant to me, i failed to consider your privacy...
please forgive me, i have thrown away the copy of this poem that i printed out and it will not be hanging on my wall.
again, i'm sorry for my spontaneous actions, and i can assure you that this won't happen again.
but i will visit this poem everyday until it is forever written in my mind.

This walk you take on fields of words and compulsion to reach and pluck from it's endless selections I understand. The time lost to sleep where too much escapes our grasp, the need through desire to write, the frustration of mundane everyday interference of this obsession. The pure need to inhale it's myriad offerings and exhale your soul. Gotta Love it!
