Just three people there,
The room was full of empty,
A dim afternoon.

I knew the bar man,
He was familiar with me,
I was there too soon.

A drink in my hand,
Half full just like I was there,
No one cared anyway.

Dim light went away,
The drink filled itself somehow,
I knew the bar man.

I drunk half a day,
In three glasses of bourbon,
She started to watch.

“Do you have a match?”
asked the tall dark haired woman,
half a smile gave way.

Before I could say,
Some flew to the table there,
I knew the bar man.

Lighting a small flame,
With a slight trembling hand
She gave me her name.

Topics were so light,
Just the weather and the war,
But it went all night.

We drank another,
But neither had any more,
We left together.

She went her own way
When we passed out through the door,
It was clear weather.

We had shared some time
And conversation in night,
Both were half empty;
Filled with more darkness than light,
All I have left is a rhyme.

Sometimes, as you well know, there are many left behind with less than this...

and then you shared it...

well done!

Thank you, Lady
You are right,
most times I don't do this well.
