The battle rages around me, sounds of death ring true.
Life blood coating  green covering with crimson hue.
Sounds of distant cannon echoing among the trees.
Flinching at the sound of each explosion on my knees.

Why must I fight my brother?  Why the blue and gray?
What cause could tear blood apart and take a life away?
He left angrily to fight for a cause, a cause I did not share.
I lost a friend, I lost a brother, he is gone and is not there.

My fight is not for freedom, my fight is not for me.
My fight is just for a simple reason, to keep my family.
They took them into bondage, they worked them  in fields.
They tricked them into leaving as they dropped their shields.

The children grew in a hostile land, a land not their own.
They grew up working hard each day, often to the bone.
A price was paid for them when they were but just a child.
Taken away in chains,  no longer running  free or wild.

I fought for them, I gave my life, I gave my brother too.
I died of blue, tried and true, I gave my life for you.
My grave unmarked is now a shrine, white pillars in a row.
My family lost blue and gray that day we died, so long ago.

Listening to every heart

Years and years ago, after reading The Red Badge of Courage, we were asked to write a poem about it...

I would have written this...

Well done!

Sunshine....thanx for the remarks...I felt
compelled to write this...I really cannot
explain why...Guess I need to think about it
for a little while...Twas a sad time in our
country's history.  Brothers killing brothers.

(tears fall down my cheeks) Such a sad and heartbreaking truth. My heart cries out to all our brothers dying in war and the families that have to cope with the losses. (big hugggssssss) My heart is with you and all these people, sweet friend! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Magnus, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Noah, the poem is about the civil war and
all of the men who fought on both sides..
some from the same families...fighting
against the other...a tragic part of our
history.

Yes Walker,  I guess you could say that.
Even those who are not linked by birth.
We are all brothers...thank you.
