Winter of the Heart

I had opened my heart
For the last time
I had opened my life
For the last time

I had reached out
When someone needed a hand
Not letting them touch my heart
Not even close at hand

But seems now all was for naught
For the only thing I have now
Are the memories of loneliness?
That you helped me to disavow

You tried to make me smile
Just by sending me love notes
I tried to tell you that you are wasting time
Seems there is a hole in the boat

So now I dry my eyes of your tears
Closing my heart up one last time
You will have to live with my being near
Just as I want you in this world of mine

I am now making a vow
That I shall not reach out
For my heart I shall not allow
To belong to anyone but you

Alan

It sounded pretty sad until I read that ending. While you were reaching out, someone reached your within?

What a lovely twist at the closing Alan ... I too, was reading this from a sorrowful angle, and yet, was surprised and touched by the beautiful promise in the ending. Very nicely done, much enjoyed!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Alan,

You had me fooled! *chuckles* I was ready to tell to not close your heart to love and so on.  But the ending was a wonderful twist I liked.

Hugs,
Tara

the winter of the heart is cold. . . but yet, a warmth still pervades. . .

well done Alan, you explore the feelings well here. . .

This is lovely Alan. Like everyone else, I thought it sounded so sad, until the end. The ending was so uplifting, and I love happy endings.

I want to thank everyone for reading and replying. This little gem was written in a tear jerking style before I rewrote it.
