the dancer spins
perched upon the clockwork
          of her life
and moving in time to a melody
          which always seems to be
                    in the background
each phrase passing by in harmonies
          both sweet and discordant
                    sometimes allegro, sometimes adagio
but always moving
          note for note
                    measure for measure
and filling the ears of those
          who hear her song
                    with a beauty shared

spin dancer of life
          spin in pink pirouette
always letting them see the best of you
          when the box is open
let them see your form
          perfect and unchanging
                    strong and silent
forever dancing to that melody
          that is your own
but never letting them see
         how you fold
                   into the darkness
when the box closes
        and the music becomes silent

Sven!  I love this as I collect music boxes and know exactly the kind you are speaking of.  But, how do we know that when the box is closed the dancer doesn't jump up and practice for her next performance?
Enjoyed...~hugs, Nancy~

Sven, I had one of those ballerina music boxes when I was really little. (LOL at Enchantress' reply, as I can just picture a rehearsal in the dark.) Your poem brought back memories, made me think about the visible VS the hidden side of me. As always, a well written, thoughtful poem.

You weave your own dance with this...

And you have written such a powerful ending with those lines...

Wonderful Sven...

Thank you

John, this made me feel like a dancer myself, a bit stranded in the darkness, but ready to come out when opened. Very nice picture, great write.

Nancy, if she does, then I've never seen it. . . but, perhaps it's another poem. . . thank you. . .

Midnitesun, you have seen it perfectly here. . . we all have that side. . . thank you. . .

Enchanted Melody, thank you my friend. . . the dance goes on, does it not???

Sandra, that's just how I saw it. . . spinning and spinning. . . thank you. . .

LW, it could be anything that happens. . . but, does it change when the box opens again??  thanks. . .

I love it, my daughter got a music box yesterday for her birthday, and I read her the poem eventhough she doesn't fully understand it(she's 7) she loves the spinning dancer poem. It's very touching, don't we all show happiness at times when we are really sad.

Sven, this was so beautiful, and the images portrayed just gorgeous.
From a retired (little girl) ballerina a big hearty thank you *hug*
