~* A Willow Leaf In A Cedar Forest *~

I awoke with a start,
as tears greeted this day and I missed you again.
The morning chill creaked in my bones, and,
as I walked, the path wrapped around my ankles to the mountain.
The silence deafened me, as I reached my place,
and in sadness I sat down to wait.
I wanted this world to come alive around me,
and although I was an intruder in this place,
I needed to hear and smell the earth so damp with night.
Finally a sound...
How strange, I thought I heard your flute.
A leaf gently drifting in a breeze landed on my shoe.
Suddenly the slow rising sun even had a scent,
a familiar scent of memory.
Soon I heard the sounds of
squirrels warning each other of my presence,
and the leaves beneath my feet, crackled like a fire.
Familiar sounds of blue jays and chickadees opened my smile as they awoke.
All around me a canvas of color came alive in my darkness.
As it progressed it seemed as it for me alone.
I watched as spiders wove silken masterpieces,
and remembered your wonder in that.
Walking in your favorite place,
I can still somehow hear your laughter,
and I cry and warm at all these memories of you.
I could have sworn I saw a butterfly in this coldness.
Then I looked down in wonder, but only for a second,
as gently a willow leaf landed on my shoe
in the middle of a cedar forest,
and I knew I was not alone.

~*~ For my friend Willow ~*~

Jenna (Willow) and I talked on the phone every single Sunday for as long as I can remember,
(over 30 years), so I write to her every Sunday now, and some I will share.  Thank you.

Friends always have a special place in our heart and special friends seem to tread gently through it forever.  Your poems let Willow tread gently through our heart as we read.

Flutterwings ~ I am so happy you liked this one, and oh but if she could read it, I wonder if they read earthly things in heaven?  I sure hope so.

Poet deVine ~ Thank you and coming from you I shall surely take this as a real compliment.

SmittenKitten ~ Glad you were not dissapointed.  I have a picture of what I call "her tree" as she loved it, and we would picnic under it, and will be writing on that, and I will send it to you when done.

Rusty Knight ~ If she treads through your heart too, trust me, you will be all the better for it   thank you.

Enchantress ~ I have to keep her close every day, I simply won't let her fade so thank you.

Balladeer ~ Ahhhh, thank you Michael, trying real hard for that "A"
