state of confusion

Taking Up Residence

It began, I suppose, a few years back,
in this confusion, it’s hard to know for sure;
always with the same pattern:
between midnight and two
(while the rest of the house dreams),
it swoops, to wake me,
to take me into a secret, monochrome world
colored only by dread,
sleeplessness
and late night T.V.

Once satisfied, it takes its leave;
I sleep until the alarm goes off,
but at the risk of nightmares;
last night I had one about my cat,
who I found drowned
in my half-full bathtub,
her face near the drain,
the rest of her swollen body
floating sideways.
I cried out her name
in a soundless scream.

A parasitic paralysis bordering on paranoia,
my own personal brand of virus,
persisting up to six weeks
before fading into the backdrop again.
Sometimes sleeping pills
help bring relief,
that chemical, dreamless slumber.

Out of fear, I leave it unresolved,
while it greedily
devours
my peace
and makes a home
out of my mind.

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Corrine, I'm so happy it was just a dream; though my heart cries out to this effect and nightmares. (sad sigh) This had me scared for a moment; my heart goes out to you and I pray you can sleep again peacefully soon. (sigh) Wonderful poem, sweet Corrine! (kiss on cheek) You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Corrine, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

who can understand the realms of the mind?  and the things that it does??

you show the confusion here well. . .

This is not a nightly vigil that I would
enjoy....I hope that you have not personally
experienced these problems with dreams.
good luck with these....

Connie,
All dreams have some sort of meaning. Both the write and dream were interesting. *L*

Hi Corinne, yes, I know all about dreams. This kind of gave me a chill!  I woke up one nght in a cold sweat and everything seemed so real!  Just like your poem.

Corinne...my childhood was wonderful; filled with the warmth and concern of a loving family. And yet, into the very middle of that security, over a period of several years, a recurrent nightmare would come; always the same, vivid terror, yet indistinct to a degree that I could never describe it to anyone. Cold sweat; open eyes, yet unable to see my mother or father trying to awaken me. And then one day, the nightmare left and never came back. May it soon be the same with you.  Bob
