a
tree
of life
and death
stands across
the way~
its eastern
section~
covered in
autumn leaves~
its western
barren,
stark,
fruitless.

it’s
been
that way
for years,
as if trying
to decide
whether
to live or die

one friend
says it
should be
taken out,
a new one
planted.
I wonder
could it not
be merely pruned,
fed, caressed,
with tender,
loving care
or should
it be
destroyed
merely for low
production?

how does life
and death exist
upon a sole
entity?
should we
find a lesson
in this tree’s
tandem existence?

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

(sad sigh) We should all learn this lesson indeed, for I believe all of nature has their own life, blessing, and fruit to bear. (sigh) Very powerful thoughts, dearest Virginia! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet friend, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

This is such a visual piece.  Title...maybe, 'It's not easy being green'.  lol  Really enjoyed, VAS.  Much thought in this.

Very good imagery. Caretaker Positions Available?  Lost Limbs?  Broken Branches? Uprooted Roots?   lots of possible titles. But whatever you call it, it leaves much room for thought, a well planted seedling to nurture. Thank you for this.

Hi VAS, long time no seen.

Nice poem, I would go for the:

be merely pruned,
fed, caressed,
with tender,
loving care

for as long there's a green leave, it's still alive.

As for a title:

"Your Choice"

I think every person and every other living thing deserves a chance to blossom.  Nicely written, Virginia.

by the grace of God.

thank you all!!!
I like the idea of making the title have to do something with making a choice...not sure what I'll settle on there.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
