The full white moon shone in the sky
That cold autumnal night.
She rose up high above the earth
To break the dark with light.
The moon has always lit the night
So in dark we could see.
Perhaps she knew to brighten
Your path to eternity.
There was no way a one could know
That night would be your last
That you would leave the world behind
So quickly and so fast.
For though you seemed so happy
You were ready to let go
Of the pain that weighed your soul down
More than anyone could know.
And though we did not know
Just what you were going through
The moon saw things we couldn't
And she shone her light for you.

You know I love this one ...
this is so lovely Elizabeth...in its poetic gifts of imagery and cadence...but most of all in its sincerety and its acceptance of things we cant change...
a beautiful tribute and the perfect poem to mark your milestone with.

Oh this was a beautiful and emotional poem.
It pains me when someone appears outwardly
so well and happy, but like so much in life,
there are things we'll never know.

I really loved reading this Elizabeth,
wonderfully expressed.

The moon has shone/shown mercy to many of us...I remember running down a dark country pathway one night, so thankful for the moon, my only light.

The moon shone and gave light to lead away from pain. This poem went deep into my heart and stayed there. It is a keeper for the message it carries and for its beauty in presentation. I love it. **hugs**

You have always been such a sweet person (to me) and everyone. This poem is very special, I love the moon and love reading about it...even in the sad times...

This is so beautifully written. Yet, it is so sad... I guess even though the loss should be mourned, this person is much happier to leave the pain behind... ^.^

Sounds like a peaceful retreat from a painful place. Would that we all could have our paths so lit. A lovely tribute.
