While waiting to inhale the tensions mount
The opening of mail's synonymous
With courage, donning latex gloves we count
The incubation to the ominous.
Afforded less protection than the Hill
Hysteria lurks just beneath the surface
When being told to ‘wait and see’ a pill
May come a bit too late to serve its purpose.
Again we learn society is tiered
The masses face a harsh reality
They are expendable, just as they’d feared
'Midst blatant standards of duality.

While we are chided not to 'dramatize'
The mail for some is promptly sterilized.

You know, I just got an envelope from Washington, D.C. today (the copyright forms that I had requested) and I did check it, before I even looked over the forms. They were fine, but it's still a concern. I just hope you're not too afraid to open the letter I'm sending to you within the next few days!   Well written Denise, these are the concerns of so many people these days. *hugs*

God bless America, my home sweet home.

It is really sad that we have to be extra cautious to check our mail.
Anyhow, good write Denise! : )

No, generally I'm not afraid of the mail, and I certainly look forward to your letter, Elizabeth! My concern comes when 'suspicious' items at work are taken away (3 times in the past two weeks)and we are just told to 'wait and see'....if they are indeed contaminated we will be informed (no time frame given for this notification and no precautionary antibiotics in the meantime) and if they aren't contaminated we won't hear anything. Ummm.....what if something is contaminated and for some reason the supposed notification falls through the cracks due to the hundreds and hundreds of samples being tested city-wide? What if someone dies waiting as happened to the two postal workers in D.C.? I can't even imagine things being handled like this on Capitol Hill or at the Supreme Court. Geeze, only 3 hours had elapsed between the receiving of the letter and the diagnosis of anthrax and Cipro being handed out on Capitol Hill. Can you imagine that type of response in the general populous?  Well, I'm still alive so I guess nothing was contaminated, but it is a stressful way to have to live. It makes me wish I worked on Capitol Hill.....lol....thanks for reading and commenting, Elizabeth!

Walt! You are hilarious! Thanks for the much needed chuckle and for reading and commenting!

Thanks RosePetal for your kind comment and for taking the time to read!

It does make you wonder where we each stand in 'protection' line. I'm not opening anything from the government offices...and the IRS? ...forget it. You can email me your list of requests.  Seriously, things are out of control, and the separation between the elite and the plebes isbecoming more apparent.

What a timely piece!  I received a letter from Italy and I put on some surgical gloves, took it outside, held it up to the sun and looked to see if there was anything alien in it!  I could also see some of the printing and it was from a poet, so I went ahead and opened it, but it made me feel uneasy!  I don't let my son go out to get our mail anymore either.

Thanks for reading and replying, Midnitesun. Unfortunately, I guess it's just a fact of life. There are so few of them and so many of us. They probably can't afford to provide the same level of protection to the masses as they do to the elite. It sure makes for stressful moments, though. Thanks again for your comments!

Thanks, Betty Lou! Yes, I know how stressful if can be, that's for sure. Hopefully this madness will cease and we can all go back to normal. Does anyone remember what normal was, I wonder?

We NEED to afford it - Every life is equally as important as the next.  Who can sit in judgment and pick & choose where to protect and where to leave us defenseless?  To leave anyone exposed to danger is nonsensical.

Your words speak for us all, my dear friend..

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Denise, this is such a haunting but well-written sonnet! (sad sigh) I know all about the anthrax scare, and I pray soon everyone together can have the courage to open their mail and have hope for us all! (big hugggsssss) Sad but beautiful, sweet friend! (kiss on cheek) You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Denise, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Nan, we'd all breathe a lot easier if you were running things! I totally agree, but unfortunately don't see the evidence that we are all being equally protected. *sigh*

Karilea, we are made of steel, that's for sure, and hopefully most of us will survive to keep standing.

Noah, Hugs right back at ya!

Thanks for reading and for your thoughtful replies!

Denise~
You already know how these events trouble me~
I do worry so for us all~

While I remember 'normal' ...
it won't ever be that way again~
Perhaps a new 'norm' ... but never ever back to our sense of 'normal'~

Evil people, performing evil acts, pervade our lives today~
Sad commentary on the circumstances of life today~
*Hugs*

If someone would have told me we would be living like this a year ago...I would have been waiting for the punch line.  It is almost unbelievable what has happened to our sense of security.  Good write Denise.
