My dear we are living a charade
We are acting as anyone
In theatre would
Mere impersonations of
Lovers and a spousal union

When things get tough
You play the role
And you can act it
Well in character
Having a visit
With friends or family
We put on the mask
A happy little home

But when all others leave
and it's just you and me
There is another story told
Behind the stage
Without the audience
My hand you do not hold

The atmosphere once warm
Grows lonely, stark, and cold
Your duplicity confuses me
How can you be so insincere
To act the best in front of them
And so distant when with me alone

Dear man if you only knew
The extent to which this
Has tortured me for years on end
I want to have a fuller life
With a lover, mate, and friend
Please end this act and let me go

I pray to God daily now
For the strength and determination
To make a real life someday
For I see in my heart of hearts
You can't see into my soul
We'll never live the truth
For the charade we play
Is a secret never to reveal

The truth of the matter is that you always know the right thing to do. The hard part is doing it.

Nicely written, but very sad. There's nothing worse than being married to one who cannot see into our soul, or chooses not to. I hope you find what you deserve, whether with him, or whether you move on.

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

My heart goes out to you. I know what living the Charade is like and it slowly destroys something beautiful within you. I pray that you soon receive the nourishment your heart needs to flourish. **hugs**

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

I catch myself doing this...then I stop, not
all the time, for I am not perfect, won't
pretend to be,  will admit I do make my
own share of mistakes.  When I sit and
think,  I sometimes get up,  just go give
her a kiss,  rub her back or something.

Let her know that I am here,  that I do
care and I know she is part of my life.

Do I always do those things....no....

I try not to be a charade....I hope he
tries not to also.

Nicely written,  very apt and true...and
BTW....this applies to both sexes...

Benita,

This reminded me of my parents. Thank you for writing this powerful poem.
