It's as if the Gods and Goddesses
looked down one day and wept--
and said "Enough. She's had enough.
This child must be kept..."
And so they moved the pieces--
castling the queen.
Now her only tormentors
are ghosts of memories.

A circle magic has been drawn--
guardians to spare me harm.
I'm just a little child, you know,
I rock and hug my knees.
But please know--I love you so--
the keepers of serenity.

The pain of life, it still goes on,
it's the silence in the song...
but I know how blest am I
as my friends sing lullabyes.

Wonder
Natalie Merchant

for serenity

Doctors have come
from distant cities
just to see me
stand over my bed
disbelieving what they're seeing

they say I must be one of the wonders
of god's own creation
and as far as the can see they can offer
no explanation

I believe
fate smiled and destiny
laughed as she came to my cradle
"know this child will be able"
laughed as my body she lifted
"know this child will be gifted
with love, with patience
and with faith
she'll make her way"

people see me
I'm a challenge
to your balance
I'm over your heads
how I confound you
and astound you
to know I must be one of the wonders
of god's own creation
and as far as you can see you can offer me
no explanation

I believe
fate smiled and destiny
laughed as she came to my cradle
"know this child will be able"
laughed as she came to my mother
"know this child will not suffer"
laughed as my body she lifted
"know this child will be gifted
with love, with patience
and with faith
she'll make her way"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
did I ever tell you I think of you when I hear this song? *S*
Wow, Karen, this is really good. And YOU are often the one singing those comforting tunes.
Serenity....I don't think I need to say
a word....seems others have so eloquently
said it all.  This seems to be of a foster
child.  I could be wrong though.
