The River

The river gathers strength
to the sea
to the sea

It awakens the rocks
the fire puts out
holds the life of rainbows
digs a whole
to grow
to grow

The river is a story
a song
it is peace
it is raging
listen

Ride it white foaming
into the shallow
lay next to her in dream
life sustaining power
life taking scream

Walk along the headlands
listen to the touch of great things
water to water
the giver
the taker
a whisper
a scream
a dance
a dream

The river is a story
a song
it is peace
it is raging
it is a poem
listen

forgive me if I throw words around
and melt when you say my name,
for I am still just a traveler
trying to find a home
yet, knowing that I carry it around,
and sometimes its just too heavy!

*sigh* I love rivers. In the spring when they are swollen from the melting snow I love the feeling of power that fills me as I watch them rush by. In the summer when they are tranquil and calm I love the way they fill me with such a feeling of serenity. BRAVO!!!! I love this poem.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Deep in the heart

I've heard the babble of the brook
I've heard the gurgle of the stream
I've heard the raging torrent scream
I've read a poem to put in my book.

Well done, as usual.  You bring nature to life

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

Martie,

This is a beautiful poem, and would also make a very beautiful song. Thanks for sharing with us.

Ahh, Martie, gentle one, it reminds me of the song of Ol Man River. Having seen the Mississippi in different guises, makes the feel of this very real...very well done as usual from you...very gentle smile

Thank you for this one, Martie.  I've always loved rivers and have spent much time in them panning for gold, or just fishing.  I love the music they make and it seems that you've captured that music well in this poem, sweet friend. (((hugs)))
