I know
this isn’t what
you thought you’d wake up to
me, either
but this
is the hand I have been dealt
if I had walked away from the table
long ago
it may have saved us both the trouble
I’m sorry
I didn’t see it coming
my fault

Your words have really touched me today Duncan. Life has a way of throwing monkey wrenches into the plans we make. One has to look at what life has dealt and find the best way to play the hand. Walking away from the table is not always the best answer and sometimes a little trouble is worth while. Writing can often help us see situations from a clearer mind. I hope all works out for you my friend, and always know there are those who will lend an ear or shoulder when needed.

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

Sometimes even when we walk away, whatever we're running away from follows us. We always must face our fears. And there's always someone to blame for our looses. That's life. Great poem.

Dear Duncan...so sad...but in the line of cards...I must say..there is gamble in many things...and sometimes the wild cards throw you. I'm sorry...I hope you feel like a winner again. No one should have to wake up so self blaming. A really poignant write.

Sincerely,
Regina

Well written expression of regret and sadness, Duncan. But if you always walked away from the table, you'd never even have a chance to get filled up again. And about those cards you were dealt? I think it's a mighty fine deck.

I like this, there's a lot here. Yes, we all have to play with the cards we're dealt. Enjoyed the metaphor.

Okay Duncan, fess up....the brevity of this is striking, indeed....and it is only poetry, right....?

Extremely poignant write that I myself could have written at one time in my own life.  May you find your happiness.  *s*
