Hearing the clink and clunk of the chains, fall of the gate.
A war weary rider returns from a quest for his king.
Sore, tender, tired  from a long and arduous ride.
Entering a gate, guarded heavily by new boyish faces

A courtyard filled with children playing, laughing..
Listening to the age-old trickery of a vendor’s sale.
Smelling breads baking, a bird’s skewered scent.
Throwing a pittance to racing lads, begging in tow.
Spying flushed face  maidens watching from above.

Dismounting slowly, shifting mail heavy on his sides
Looking for the servant knave, wishing to be free.
Drawing the sword, nicked and bloodied from the fight.
Tending to the wounded chest, heart beating inside.
Dreaming of a bath drawn by a familiar and fair maid

Given as a child to a king, destined to be a knight.
Serving and defending a king, queen,  a maiden too.
Yearning for the maiden’s smile, touch, sensual smell.
Remembering intimate moments shared in a loft by two.

Shucking off the mail, mittens, manly  fighting things.
Standing proudly for one to see, touch and feel.
Anticipating  a knock from the unguarded door below.
Sensing a tender touch carrying a hot water pail.

Sinking slowly into the depths of a lover’s tub.
Eyes closed, breathing soap scented smells.
Dreaming of a maid’s smile, soft and tingling  touch.
Gasping, startled from a submerged and stalking graze.
Smiling, laughing, savoring a victor’s  spoils.
Thankful to be a knight returned from a successful quest.
Alive to fight and love again.....and again....and again....

Mine too Sandra...

Give me a day with the Knights bold
Let me hear all of the stories told
Let me bear a sword of sharp steel
For tis these days that seem so real.

Barry, This has to be one of the best things I have seen from your pen.  Of course I feel that way about them all.  But, this one has splendid imagery...truly enjoyed the read.

This...is medieval magic. A spell you have cast Sir...and I happen to love every word of the entire poem! But this is a vision of masculinity equipped for passion. Perfect!

Sincerely,
Regina
