In the days when men were......well, you know what I mean.....

In the days when chivalry was the way of the day
and gallant men rode off to fight a distant war.
There remained behind a select few they say
who fought the devilish dragons in from afar

Dragon Slayers, sleek, strong and so fast
who sharpened a sword while others played.
Dragon slayers, knights of an old time past
riding off to slay dragons instead of a maid.

They wore the mail though tarnished and old
no peasant boy their slave they did keep.
They got  little gratitude for being so bold.
No maids behind at  their burial did weep.

A shield of the finest bronze from a war
in a distant land forgotten, no longer free
A bag of grain, a small stick of black tar
Three scars from a small dragon to see.

These slayers come and go,  return silently
their presence no one has hospitably kept.
They come back tired, hungry, weary
A restful sleep they have not slept.

Now when you tell mighty tales of old,
of dragons, damsels and chivalrous fights.
Don’t forget about the hero’s not  told
For Dragon Slayers are the true knights.

Sandra....sometimes patience and happiness
with ourselves is befitting of a maid in
search of a knight....surely there is one
waiting to capture you.  Thanx.

Sven,  if it were not for all of the gruesome
weapons of their day....I certainly would
have enjoyed being there,  if only for just
one day...Thanx

Now these are the days I would have loved to have lived in.  Real men fighting real fights for survival.  Great work, Magnus.
