I suppose I should have watched the road I was on
but I was too caught up in the scenery to notice
that you were closing in on my feelings.
The past few years of friendship wraught with
under the moon confessions
making deeper our understanding of life
were just enough to keep me close to you
as you became a friend I treasured.
That non assuming friend I thought never
would push the boundaries too hard.
Playful flirting unleashed I was accustomed to hearing
as I smiled and you knew
we would never grow in any other way
than the friendship we had.
Small innuendos we both laughed at
and never took seriously
are now magnified in my heart
as it hurts because you want to cross boundaries now.
I suppose I knew before that you did
but I always respected the distance
as you did
or as you seemed to.
I don't think you mean me harm,
but if we can't meet
solely under friendship's conditions
what have I to gain but your body
by coming face to face
with the friend I thought you were?
Are you still my friend?
Yes
I still accept you
and after tonight
forgive you.
Now
This is simply me
hurting.
Tomorrow there will be questions.
Tonight
just me crying.

Sometimes the heart needs the solace of solitude and silence.

Don't cry, well, sure you will. I lost a friend a long time ago from this very situation...I'd give anything to go back and be stronger but well, I'm just a woman!
I hope the people in this poem find the peace in the keeping of a friendship, cause when one dies, it's a sad thing....

Very sad write, Temptress.  It's all too often that seemingly 'harmless' actions and words turn into someone pushing for more.  In my opinoin it's all too common and that's when feelings get hurt and friendships crumble for they have no true basis.  Sorry for the ramble.  I guess this one just struck a chord with me.  You're written it well.  Best of luck to you with the friendship.

All writing comes
by the grace of God.

Friendship can be mistaken for love, because of the closeness we share. Sometimes the boundaries are cross and we eventually get hurt. Then we lose a friend. Good Luck and hopefully that person will understand is for the best.Too much to risk.Great expression of love.

when lines are crossed. . . it's nice if both are on the same side of it. . .

well done. . . from the heart. . . with depth and feeling. . .

Oh, I'm sorry you are crying tonight, want a shoulder?
Written well, but so sad of a story.
