Safe Haven

When days are wrought with some discord
A dissonant companion’s chord
When principles are far apart
I seek the haven of my heart

For here I know where I belong
The good from evil, right from wrong
It’s written on the page I’ve lived
and in the sands that time has sieved

When I’m alone in certain fear
In black of night, no person near
When caught in whirlwind’s endless bind
I seek the haven of my mind

For this is where my treasures lie
The memories of days gone by
The love I’ve known, the beauty seen
The splendor of a golden dream

When sorrow lays it’s cloak on me
And tries to bring on misery
When helplessness has chimed a toll
I seek the haven of my soul

For this is true contentment’s bed
To where my peace and joy is led
And fills the depths with lullabies
The red of rose, the blue of skies

When all seems lost, when heart and mind
And soul are difficult to find
I then recall my childhood home
And know that I am not alone

For there my eye can clearly see
The humble essence of all three
Where love was wrapped around a kiss
Where worth and truth to self exist

Where face of dignity was worn
Where all my priciples were born

This just brought back so warmly my sense of childhood Liz ... beautifully written in perfect cadence and rhyme, an absolutely delightful read. I feel like I just got a big hug around this old heart. Thanks my friend, for this lovely piece.

Best wishes,
/Kit

To thine own self be true, it's there we truly dwell. Strong stuff.

Elizabeth, the flow pales to the meaning behind this. It's, help me here, I can't think of the word. It makes me feel like a child again, safe, you know when you find that time to let your mind comfort you? That's how I felt reading this. I love this poem, absolutely love it, I love the way it makes me feel inside and the hope that it gives.  Reading it outloud is a pleasure,
and I do. Yes, this is a keeper, something you can be very proud of.  It's poetry with a capital P.

I can't plant my mums this season cause of my health, but here's a little color for you to thank you for this treasure you just wrote.

Yes, retreat within, replenish yourself.  Then come back out for all that need such a special lady in their lives. Splendid, Liz.
