The Shores of Alone

Inspired by much good advice from all of you.

I found a box of beauty
and I put you all away
As much as it will pain me
I must wrap it up today.

Inside has gone your pictures
all the ones I took of you
and the little ones you painted
their sight tears my heart in two.

I have to add the music
that we made love to last time
I surely cannot listen
and remember touch divine.

There's even an old news write
on your talent and your art
A photo of your baby
that one really broke my heart.

Inside must go the letter
that I'll never let you see
for what's the point of making
even bigger fool of me?

There's also a few poems now
that will never see the light
they're truly far too tearful
better left here out of sight.

I'm writing down my sorrow
for goodbye was not my wish
I'm packing up my feelings
tucked away with your last kiss.

Today I got the ribbon
something beautiful and new
and though I tie it tightly
it could open up for you.

This is the box that love built
though you tried to tear it down
my love shall live inside it
till a new one has been found.

I believe this is heaven to no one else but me, and I will defend it as long as I'm left here to linger in silence...Sara McLachlan

Sandra, this is indeed wisdom, letting go of unnecessary pain and living your life and writing poetry. Nothing else matters. (((hug)))

I commend you, Sandra, on your decision and action.  I know that it must feel like living an unimaginable nightmare, but over time, it too will fade and allow you to move forward rather than remain stagnant by living soley in the past...  A BIG heart-hug to you and an empathetic nod of understanding towards your new life before you...

Oh ..Sandra...This is so painfully beautiful.
You have poured out your heart so eloquently and I hope that writing your pains out would help you to put them all aside....

Take care dear lady....

a precious box full of the memories, the beauty, the grandeur, the splendor, and the bittersweet passion........ all irreplaceable, all eternal

you see.... whether you actually physically put those things in an actual box or not, doesn't matter...... what you had will last forever... Love never dies..... Time changes people's hearts and sometimes that is painful, indeed and I have known this pain all too well..... but the Love..... remains....... forever ...... the moments shared, the union of two souls....it is a precious gift

as you've described here, it is as if it is all packaged neatly with so many levels of experience, all in a giftbox with ribbon, beautifully protected eternally

believe me, this gift is in his heart and will remain there and nothing and nobody can ever take those memories away or the experiences.....

you have given each other the gift that keeps on giving...... Love..... because nothing can ever take that away from either of you

George Gershwin wrote this song...
They Can't Take that Away From Me

The way you wear your hat
The way you sip your tea
The memory of all that
No they can't take that away from me

The way your smile just beams
The way you sing off key
The way you haunt my dreams
No they can't take that away from me

We may never ever meet again, on that bumpy road to love
Still I'll always, always keep the memory of

The way you hold your knife
The way we danced till three
The way you changed my life
No they can't take that away from me
No they can't take that away from me

The way your smile just beams
The way you sing off key
The way you haunt my dreams
No they can't take that away from me

We may never ever meet again, on that bumpy road to love
Still I'll always, always keep the memory of

The way you hold your knife
The way we danced till three
The way you changed my life
No you can't take that away
You can't take that away from me
No you can't take that away from me

..... and that is why you have your gift box, forever treasured..... please put this poem in there.... it is the powerfully beautiful writing from a woman's heart healing, accepting, while remaining open to love again....... and you will!

Full of sorrow, but room enough for a touch of beauty.  Very nicely done, Sandra.

*sigh* taking a step forward into a new future is hard but you are doing it in the right way. My heart goes out to you, dear one..for I know the pain you have to endure. I am very glad you have the strength to begin to put it all away. **big hugs** Now the future can reach out to you and be embraced.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Sandra, it is indeed a hard step to take..but, the first one is the most difficult.  You are a beautiful person and I just know something wonderful is about to happen to you!  ~Hugs, Nancy~

(If I may just add.  As if your poem was not sentimental enough, being a lover of old music, as I read the words over to They Can't Take That Away From Me, that Doreen added in her reply....I lost it)

Catalinamoon, Oh dear heart. If I could take away your pain...I certainly would try. But, this is what makes us stronger so they say. This poem touched me very deeply, as I am sure it did to anyone reading it who has loved someone so much, each breath you took was for them. Be brave. Chris

I have just such a box, Sandra.  Though often hard to do, sometimes this is the best way of handling such feelings, my friend.  BIG (((hugs))) and prayers for you.

Sandra,

I so know how you feel. When my ex and I broke up I really felt like I would die. But I'm still here almost 3 years later and probably happier than I've ever been in my life. No, I don't have a boyfriend, that is the only thing that would make my life as close to perfect as anyone could get. I too had to make up a box of memories, but made the spontaneous mistake of burning them one day. I really wish that I had never done that cause what we had was very special and always will be.

I think this is truly one of the most heart wrenching, yet beautiful poems that I have read. This is going into my library. This is the first step towards healing your heart. In time, you will still have the lovely memories, but it will not hurt so much too think of them. I hope that time comes soon for you dear one. *hugs*

Sandra,

It is so hard when our heart tells us one thing and our mind says something else.  The void left by someone that was special must be filled by something or someone.  Take care my friend that it is something or someone worthy of someone as special as you.  Dan
