School Days

When I was a child and going to school
Attending a one room school was the rule
We had lunch buckets, no hot meals
Everyone walked; no one had wheels

We lived in the country a quarter mile
Mom would give us our lunch and a smile
See you this afternoon, come right home
Don’t act silly along the road, and don’t roam

There were those days, try as we might
When coming home we’d get into a fight
My older sister tried to keep peace
We’d make it home rumpled and creased

Mom would always be able to tell
If one of us happened to miss the bell
If we got into trouble at school
We could not expect she would be fooled

I often wondered, “Did the teacher call?”
When we got home there was this deadly pall
Somehow Mom always knew
With us she also knew what to do..

Good grades were expected at our home
Tests were gone over with a fine toothed comb
Lame excuses were not accepted you see
There was no need to whine, no need to plea

Each of us knew what was expected
Laziness in school work was never accepted
Sometimes I reflect on those days gone by
Thankful school days in the past do lie

(sigh) Oh my gosh, I know how exhausting it can be! (sigh) While I write poetry a lot, you'd be suprised at how much I do outside of that; write calligraphy, act in drama, edit a journal, write research papers, paint, sculpt, make Powerpoints, and even teach children. (sigh) Such memories fill your wonderful words, sweet friend! (kiss on cheek) Have a beautiful day, sweet friend! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Wanda, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

*giggling* me too. They are wonderful memories but I wouldn't want to live them over again. This poem is absolutely delightful and I love starting my day with it. **hugs**

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Good morning Noah; Those were special days for me, as I am sure  yours' are for you.  But, they were busy days, and I am happy to not have to return to those days.  I hope your day at school goes well today.  Thanks for the reply to this poem.  Wanda

Good Morning to you sweet Karen; So, you remember days like these too.  There are times I wish I were younger, but not with the responsibilities of going back to school.  Thank you for your reply.  Wanda
