Were You There

Often in times of hardship you sit alone
Answers are never found for the many questions
Until you begin to ask yourself of ignorance
And you find that selfishness is all around

People want to be at the forefront so they can be seen
Cherishing the glory of attention in a world of "me"
Unconcerned for the realities of being vain
Unperturbed, relentless in the quest for fame

Where were you when times got rough and tears flowed
From the weakened dehydrated child of the desert
Were you there when the child's mother cried
As she lay the dying child in the sand to rest

Where were you when AIDS struck your own
From the comfort of your existence you closed up
Were you there when the last breath died
As the dream of the stricken ended

Where were you when sons and daughters fought for freedom
From the fields of foreign lands they yearned for home
Were you there when they fell bleeding alone
Giving up their souls for you and I for liberty

Where were you when masters of wars raged genocide
From close by you watched the news from the inside
Were you there when the millions lay murdered
Innocents of the craziness of power hungry murderers

Where were you when they nailed him to the cross
Were you there when they crucified justice
Were you there when they took him from the cross
Were you there to see the hurt on his mother's face
Where are you when he calls for love and peace

Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love
(Daniel J D)

Bravo Daniel!! This is wonderful. Chris

Life is not measured by breaths you take, but by moments that take your breath away.
