Friday at the Bakery

Two days I had prepared myself
I had used every cosmetic on the shelf
I had cleaned my shoes and combed my hair
My uniform was ironed with such loving care

I had purchased a new fragrance at the store
I liked it so well I went back for more
The lemon cake was baked; it looked really nice
It looked so delicious, I wanted a slice

I waited for him to come through the door
the man of my dreams, the one I’d adore
I needed more frosting for the cupcakes to go;
I went to the back room, then stubbed my toe

The bowl of frosting spilled all over my dress
It was chocolate; I looked like a royal mess
It dripped down upon each of my shoes
Must I always be such a clumsy goose

He stepped to the counter asking for the cake
Could he also see the one who did bake
I grabbed a garbage bag; tied it around my waist;
walked out to the counter with a smile on my face

Frosting continued to drip from my dress
It made stickly little puddles where I progressed
He said, “Would you like to go out with me;
I love your lemon cakes, don’t you see?”

I happened to glance closer at his clothes
He was wearing some shorts with support hose
When he opened his mouth I saw his teeth
They looked like daggers that needed a sheath

So, Mr. Perfect is just like the rest of us
I laughed at all my preparations and fuss
It’s not what’s outside that is important you see
Inner beauty should mean more to you and me

Such truth resides within this cute poem.
Yes,  I know well how the inner self means
more than the exterior ever will.  Fought
that for a long time.

Magnus; I believe this is a battle most of us fight in our lives.  Our society is so focused on outward appearances.  We get so caught up in that we forget about the inner person.  I was hoping for a humorous reminder of what is really important.  Wanda

Good Evening Noah; I seem to be stirring up the desire for something made of lemons.  It so happens that is my favorite as well. Perhaps you could tell that.  Hope your day went well.  Wanda

Rose Petal; You gave me a chuckle when I read what you said about there being no problem with a person dripping in chocolate.  Thank you for your response to this poem.  Wanda

Wanda - This is so sweet (in more ways than one)it brought a smile to my face....then I felt a piece of spinach between my teeth..nobody's perfect. Chris

Chris; Indeed you are right; there is no one of us who is perfect.  (Smiles) I understand about the spinach. Wanda
