Crumbling leaves underfoot, foretell my approach
Their orange, yellow, and red once screamed from the trees
Before settling to earth as a multi-colored blanket

These leaves, which escort spring in as buds,
Provide life blood for the their tree in summer
Finish their life cycle and usher in fall

Smelling their demise in the air,
They serve us as backdrop to Thanksgiving,
Bonfires on a cool October night,
Hayrides and raked leaf piles
First a tree and then us
Their life is to serve

Warm rays of sun, but a chill wind blows
Too hot for a jacket, but too cold without
Leaves flutter to the ground as the sun slowly drops
Sky, orange, etches these last few precious days in my memory
I savor these shortening days fore winter approaches
And brings yet another life cycle to end

Love one another-let God do the worrying,
Rodney

Great poem about a season I most don't enjoy to it's fullest, fearing that the chill of winter is ready to open the door.

thats funny...my reason for loving fall is to get a few last stolen nice days before big, bad winter comes in...spring is more of a tease...nice one day then snow the next...I like the optimism of a last NICE day instead of the excuse of "well summer will be here soon" to answer a snowy day...but, thats just me!   thanks for the glowing praise Noah...it is appreciated...

Lets Love one another-let God do the worrying,
Rodney

funny Rodney, I've always seen Fall as the prelude to a glowing, white Winter. . . but, then again, I like the snow. . .

well done here, I love all the images. . . goes perfectly with what I'm looking at right now. . .

Rodney; I love the colors of fall, but it always ushers in the cold of winter.  Winter has its' beauty as well.  But, winter with all the cold and snow has long since caused me to simply long for the warmth of spring and summer.  I guess it is not too difficult to see I am not a winter person. When I read your poem, it reminded me of the chill that I will face when I go out this evening.  I will wear a coat here though. :-) Wanda

as the leaves skip and tumble
see the last flit of the bumble
smell the last of chocolate air
before fall winds strip limbs bare

you've painted me a lovely scene
'twill carry me through winter's dreams...

I love the picture this allows me to see in my mind's eye. Beautiful imagery.

Poetry is an expression of feelings.  I do not write poems, but rather, the poems use me to write themselves.
