I come before you tonight
Begging and pleading
With all my heart and soul
Requesting your forgiveness
For all the wrongs I have committed
Against you and your people

I thought them to be less than I
On more than one occasion
Thinking my intellect
Would tower above them
For the longest time
I had these feelings

Until one day as I sat alone
I came to a realization of sorts
I was not superior to them
Nor was I inferior to them
Deep down inside my heart
I was really their equal in truth

We were more alike than I knew
Having the same thoughts and fears
Fighting and struggling to be our best
In a world that was far from perfect
For a time we had each other
Until I let you slip away from me

I have learned some valuable lessons
About life and the road I have traveled
I wouldn’t trade any of it for one minute
Because it has all helped to shape me
Into this person I am sitting here today
And the one that I will be tomorrow

WOW, Lone Wolf, this is awesome. What a outpouring of feelings, with such honesty and truth of heart. I will save this, and read it again later tonight, when the world around me has quieted down to a low roar.

I think realizations like this happen over and over again in our lives. Its a wonderful thing when we discover we are not alone either in a high tower or low tower, but that we are all struggling in one way or another.   I like to say if God can forgive, then what makes us so good that we can't forgive to. Here's hoping you find the forgiveness you seek.

I'm finished with my ramble now. I'd like to say this made me think, and I enjoyed it very much.   Its wonderful to see you posting again. I hope all is well within your life.

Great write. Your ending has always been one of my philosophies. The mistakes I have made have brought me to who I am today. And we never stop making mistakes and we never stop learning. You have written this really well

Very well written.  Leaving the reader with thoughts to ponder.  Enjoyed, Nancy.

Never too old to learn. This applies to so much of life. I, as many others reacted instantly to Sept. 11th with the knee jerk reaction of an all inclusive revenge. Imagine such arrogance to denounce 1 billion humans for the acts of a few. I sat a spell in a county lock-up and there learned that those in such dire circumstances are indeed the same as I. We've insulated ourselves in a tribal sphere and cocooned against interaction with those of different skins or cultures. Forgiveness indeed, may God forgive us all. Enjoyed the provoking write.

Midnitesun: Very true and from the heart as always.  Thank you much for saving it and for the reply.

Temptress: We are never truly alone I believe.  I think most offenses committed against us are not done out of malice and should be forgiven.  After all, no one is perfect.  Thank you much!

Tracey: You are right.  We shall always learn, that's what life is all about.  Thank you!

Enchantress: Life itself has much to ponder.  Just something I had on my mind and this was how it all came out.  Glad you enjoyed.

RSWells: We are never too old in my opinion to learn from life.  You are very right about how we've insulated ourselves.  Just because someone is different than us doesn't mean they are a bad person.  Perhaps if we took the time, we'd find that out.  Excellent point.

Sven: Thank you very much.  Yes, it is exactly what we need for the future.  I am always learning.  Perhaps I've learned to look a little more inward than outward lately.  After all, if you don't like yourself then no one else will either.  Thanks again.
