~*~ Willow's Leaves ~*~

~*~ Willow's Leaves ~*~

As they danced around me, pirouetting,
the memories of her became her favorite song,
humming, in rhythm to the beat of my heart.
A spectrum of colored leaves lay at my feet.
Tenderly I picked up a collection of
small and intricate pieces of earthen paper.
Each was inscribed with the sounds and scents
of the past, pressed together with soil.
I touched their moist skins of reminiscence,
chewing on the edges of faces and events
digesting the moments of her life
into a composted collective of purest love.

It seems the recollections that are
closest to the surface I remember best.
Brittle, crisp and crackling memories,
smelling ever so slightly of our past,
crunching loudly with colorful familiarity.
I warm at the trick my mind plays.
I see you leaning against a barren,
willow tree standing all alone.
I rake these memories into a pile,
and frantically run through them,
rolling over and over, laughing in memory.

I am a child again and could have sworn,
I bumped into you this October morn.

~* A Memory Of Willow *~

OMG, this is awesome, both picture and poem.
And it is such a warm golden memory you bring to these blue pages, today. Thank you!

And it sure beats going out and shoveling the snow today!

Beautifully said....I felt as though I was
there picking up and rubbing the leaves.
Yes, most memories are close to the top.  But
occasionally....we get deeper, and those
remain on the top as well....Thank you

Beautiful Sharon!  Another in memory of your dear friend Willow.  I almost feel as though I know her, through you, as you keep her memory alive with your writing, and your love just shines through.  She must have been a unique and beautiful person and friend.

~*~ THANK YOU ~*~
Your friends or loved ones are never gone, as they are always alive in your heart.  This was one thing we did as kids in Winnipeg, rake leaves only to mess them up again by playing.  Today while raking them up I remembered her saying, "wonder why people rake leaves, if you leave them alone they dance away!".  So...I am leaving them there this year for her and will see what happens.  I did love this friend so much so I have to keep her spirit with me always.  Thank you all for reading my memories.

Darn! I wish would have thought of the leaf pile thingy while I was there...I haven't done that in years...the midnight romp through the playground on the swings and slide brought out the little girl in me again for a time...but the leaf pile would have made it complete! ~*~winks~*~
This was so beautiful, Sharon...and I have no doubt in my mind that she was standing in the shadows smiling radiantly as she watched you taking a trip down memory lane with her.
Hugs and much love to you, always, ~*~dawnie~*~

Some poems are heart felt, some tug at your heart strings and some open it up for all to see.  This poem does all three.

Sharon; This lovely poem brought back memories of my childhood and a dear friend.  It also brought back memories of our children piling up the leaves to jump into and scatter to the four winds once again.  What a delightful memory.  Thank you for sharing this.  Wanda
