The night air cold, breath frosting, eyes tearing.
Standing watch over a fair maiden high above.
Watching for a thief coming to steal a fair heart.

I have vowed to protect you, you know this.
I have sworn to keep you safe from harm.
I have bled countless drops as your keeper.
I have cried a thousand times for you.

You lie there resting, sleeping as I stand.
I know your face smiles in peace,
I know you sleep pleasantly, dreaming.
I wish I could lie beside you, caress your hair.

These walls have stood for four generations.
For over three thousand sets of a full moon.
Hundreds have died here beneath you.
All sharing one common bond, one goal.

Each of us has carried our burden faithfully.
Our lives meaningless without a maiden fair.
Our birth of no consequence, senseless
A warrior, large heart, standing silent and tall.

You have smiled down to me, my heart fluttering.
Occasionally, a small gift dropped, a grape, a morsel.
Laughing, you have said hello to me, my throat tight.
I cannot answer, my code of silence I must keep.

If I were allowed, I would tell you so many thoughts.
I would give you endless pleasure and love.
I would hold you closely in my arms, guarding you.
I would cry tears of comfort, tears of joy.

I can never tell you, for death awaits if I do.
I can only ever love you, leave you there.
Leave you sitting, peacefully yarning above me.
For my death would take you away.

Wow!! This so much reminded me of Romeo & Juliet, two star crossed lovers who were the epitome of love and romance.  Your poem captured all of that Magnus.....excellent!
Take care......Sue

Shoot....okay the tears are flowing. How very sad for these lovers. Can't you write a happy ending for this one? *sigh* You bring a great deal of emotion to life and touch the hearts of everyone who reads your work.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Gee....you can't always have your cake and
eat it as well....sometimes you get crumbs.
Thanx Startime....I enjoy writing these.
