The Letter – Understanding – Part 8 A year passed, a second then third, her child was a babe no longer her love for her husband had grown, having blossomed stronger she was the talk of the town widowhood would not fit her she kept her head held quite high, although publicly censured She attended, as was her due opera, plays, and church then every night, silently stand beside the ever-white birch o’er the horizon she’d cast green eyes, a nightly practice to gaze into the depths of ocean’s blue and past the marine’s gray haze her child had oft times questioned his father’s whereabouts as other times, at surf’s door she would hear him verily shout “M’sir, m’father, my dear heart ‘tis only a matter of days before you return to your dear heart to share with her loving ways” she knew not how he knew it to speak near his father’s own words though her heart was strengthened she smiled each time she heard “M’sir, m’father, my dear heart ‘tis only a matter of days before you return to your dear heart to share with her loving ways” “Come back to me, my child” she’d call to him each day “Come back to me, my love” as winds carried her whispers away the townsfolk would simply hang their heads, they could not believe her love until that one day came along a note, wrapped upon leg of a dove…. Lady, he has to come back to her and their child!! Maybe he has been held captive all these years in prison somewhere or...who knows... but he will return... he really has to, you know? He really must.... return. |
