Resting in bed,
trying to read,
the fan's oscillating breeze
gently blows across the room,
drying the patina
of perspiration
from my partially nude form,
caused by the sultry,
southern afternoon.

Then gently,
I feel a touch,
lighter than a lover's caress,
the full plume
of a black tail
grazes across my naked breasts.
The richness
of living fur
stretches out beside me.

The deep rumble
of his purr softly droning,
the sound
rising, falling,
rising falling,
my eyelids heavy,
book falls aside.

I sleep.
