The Letters – Times’ Passing – Part 6

Many sheaves filled her chest of burled
                        wood, many small packages of
teas and spices having been sent, spicing her
                        room, her hands,
                        marking her heart,
all bearing the feel of his hand, the seal of
his lineage, the texture of the lands
he had roamed over the months

but this, this letter ~ loomed large on
                        fear’s ochre horizon,
the damp kerchief in her lap dried
the last of this day’s tears, as she read, again

                        “M’lady, m’love, my dear heart
‘tis only a matter of days
before I return to your dear heart
to share with you loving ways”

                        his voice filled her mind,
                        a deep, robust voice, carrying
a sing-song of life, always cheerful, never
                        harsh, but tender, and kind…

his pages fell away from her skirt
                        she studied, intently, the words
                        of a stranger’s peculiar hand,
                        feeling the imprint through
                        the parchment….

“Dear Lady, it is with deep regret…”
                        how words float through tears
a throat burns in ache of screamings
                        gone unheard
a soul reaches out for one last moment’s
                        grasp

                        disbelief filled her heart,
                        it would have known
                        it would not accept
                        it did not believe
                        it was not true
                        it would not
                        cry, only
                        her eyes
                        wept

                        She read on….

A fine tale you weave,
turns a bit sad, but...

Enjoyed

*sigh* oh gosh.....my heart is crying. This story has grabbed my attention making it so very hard not to feel strongly about her. I hope and pray there is a miracle. MAGNIFICENT WRITING.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Funny you know, I feel I am almost intruding (now is that good writing or what?).  You couldn't have posted this is prose could you - oh no!  Be a little tease.  psst, you changed the font on my eyes too, sneaky.   oh this is lovely, just lovely.

How beautiful and how close to my heart this comes at this particular time in my life when a letter is so precious.  The keeping of it, a letter is always, always with you even when you are not with the person or can no longer be. A letter....is love wrapped and safe when you need it, for a memory or just to keep your tears company.  I love this and I will read all of them. Thank you for this.....

He can't die...she needs him so...but I know you have to write what you feel...I know this is beginning to feel so real to me.

Sincerely,
Regina

a throat burns in ache of screamings
gone unheard
a soul reaches out for one last moment’s
grasp

disbelief filled her heart,
it would have known
it would not accept
it did not believe
it was not true
it would not
cry, only
her eyes
wept

Lady, this series has impressed me with its excellence from the beginning... and this episode is no exception. But this one breaks my heart... perhaps because, even though this is a "period" piece, I can't help but think of the thousands that have known just such grief recently. Superb writing!!!
