Could You Spare Some Dignity?

I hate to ask, but you see
my joy has worn quite thin,
and I would simply like to be
happy once again.

Would you loan me for a while
that twinkle in your eye?
Would you let me take your smile
and try it on for size?

Would you lend me for a bit
a little of your laugh?
I promise to take care of it
and promptly give it back.

Perhaps you might spare
a spring in your step, or two,
if you were me I'd gladly share
all of these things with you.

Could you spare some dignity
so I may raise my head?
Tell a story with a happy ending
that I could dream about in bed?

In this caring from your heart,
costing only a smile or two,
every bit of joy you shared
Will all come back to you.

~I always have time to listen to someone talking from their heart~

Oh man, this is touching. That picture, those words. I could almost cry.

Oh gosh, girl, do you ever know how to touch the heart. Both this poem and the graphic pulled at my heartstrings. You seem to give such messages with your wonderful poetry that we all become better people just in the reading of them. STANDING OVATION.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Ah, you are all too sweet, thank you.  Just a simple smile instead of turning away, can sure cheer someone up who needs it can't it?

Sharon, this flowed beautifully and tenderly like a river from the center of your heart...gently trickling across the walls of mine and touching it so deeply.  The answer to all of these questions from the depths of your love and compassion for others would be "absolutely...YES".  What a wonderful message to begin my day with.
Hugs to you...I love ya muches, always....

BRAVO Sharon!  Much applause for this wonderfully thought-out and introspective piece from your heart. This is perfectly composed, both in content and flow. A very reflective thought on society my friend ... very much enjoyed these sentiments!

Best wishes,
/Kit

This applies not only to the man in the picture, but when we have a bad day. We all have to bear our crosses, and sometimes is nice to hear a story with a good ending, I love that. thanks.

Again Sharon you know how to awaken a sleeping soul... you know how to open our eyes to the simplicity of giving of ourselves to others... if it only with a smile, a touch, a helping hand. Compassion is not weighed in $$$$ ........awwwwwwwww but, how it heals and soothes an aching heart.   with joy in my heart. Well done!   Maggie ((~.~))

Yes, dispensing dignity is preferable to dispensing dimes. You have a kind heart, and I know you are one of those rare souls who stop and say "Hello" and offer smiles and warmth. (But I also see you HANDING him some $ for a warm meal, and not just tossing coins into a bucket and then walking away as quickly as possible.)

Thank you all so much but I almost feel I should take no thanks for this, as it is reality at its worst isn't it to most of us.  However, I know quite a few homeless people in Vancouver's Eastside that are quite content really, and all they wish is that people would look at them and not away when they walk past, and that is not to much to ask one of one human being to another.  I am sure everyone shares of their heart willingly in here, as I have met only very compassionate people in Passions.

Sharon -

What a wonderful sentiment you've captured here,
I didn't know you'd met our Balladeer!
Did he schmooze you with his gift for gab,
While he tried rifling your hand bag?

On a more serious note - This poem of yours is very sweet.

What a smile can do for us all. I'm so glad you see the importance in it. If even just a pat or touch of acceptance that makes one feel viable to the world. Sometimes everyone needs to feel acknowledged or noticed just so they know they aren't invisible anymore. Your words ring compassion bells of attention.

Sincerely,
Regina

Andy ~ Thank for stopping in and reading this one - miss you

rwood ~ You have no idea how true your words are - I asked one of the men at Harbour Lights what he was thinkig once, as he seemed lost waiting in the line for his dinner, and he said, "I was thinking I have turned invisible, that's what I'm thinking!" so thank you for even mentioning that.

Amigo ~ With a name like yours, I know you smile at everyone right?

OH, BY THE WAY......In Vancouver we have Harbour Lights, where each dinner costs $1.97 for a hot dinner meal, and you can donate a cheque to these organizations to cover that.  I am sure most cities have this, and boxes to put the food in for the less fortunate.  Next time you grocery shop buy two cereal and drop one in the box, BET you leave with a smile!    This is the time of the year they need lots of blankets, and warm boots, so if you have any old ones kicking around, there is a place near you that will take them I am sure.

Thanks everyone!

Try giving your smile to someone who does not have one, and I bet you'll find another ~*~ Mysteria ~*~
