(I'm not even sure this qualifies as a poem!)

When I was a child I always
said, "it's ok"
even when it wasn't.
I never revealed
sting or distress.
All of my emotions
were kept in check,
discarded as if they
never mattered.
Emotions never dissolve,
they live inside
need release
where do they go?
Sometimes they explode
into open palms that hold
your sobs in the blackest night
and nothing comforts.
Nothing.

I love people, love them,
small children, old people,
I gave to them,
and neglected myself,
I tended to
their emotions, what they wanted
and what they needed.
Sounds so noble.
It's stupid!

Inside,
where words move and
form I write forgiveness
to myself before I ask
others for it.
I need to forgive myself.
For not being enough,
for being too much,
for anger, troubling
fear and discontent,
There is a gentleness missing.
Oh, I have given it to others
and depleted my own resolve.
And that's not ok.

It's not ok to write
beautiful words
that inspire and not
ok to design a page
displaying a portrait
of a wonderful person
when you yourself have
failed miserably.
And yes, I have failed many times.

I probably will again.
I know I will.
That's ok as long as I know
I cannot neglect
this woman who cried out to me,
me
and I didn't listen to her.

Well, I'm listening to her now
and she and I?
We are so very tired.
So tired.
But the words, the words
are all bottled up inside.
So they will be written.

If you feel this way
you are not alone!

Take someone's hand, go on,
take it and allow them to wipe
your tears away.
Please don't drive those
away who care for you,
oh you will still heal, yes,
but slowly...slowly.

No one can be ok, alone.
No one.

Lady of Shallot, Oh my goodness! This is just so like myself, and probably so many others as well. Sometimes we give so much, we lose ourselves. Maybe that is why we love poetry so much. We can rid ourselves of pain, loss, rejection, guilt. You name it. Just remember....there is no such thing as failure....only results. You have done very well with this piece, very well. Chris

Dear Lady...please listen to your inner child who is crying out to you.

I love free verse, and use it most of the time...who said poetry has to rhyme?

thank you for those wonderful words. Once I had a bad experience online and I don't like to use my real name, but my confirmation name is Anna, and I always loved it.
oh yes, Nancy, the inner child....that's who I want back!
Thank you all!

'No one can be ok, alone.
No one.'

I agree. And you must take time to take care of your own heart, before it is strong enough to give it to others.

"Please don't drive those away who care for you."
I have done this myself and feel like the reason I did it was because I could not believe anyone could truly care for me...James

Startime, thank you and I love rhyme but recently enjoy the
freedom of this type of writing also.

Mtnitesun: Thank you and yes, that is very, very true.

James Michael, We are all worthy of being loved.
Once we realize that, true joy begins and we can accept love and not question it. Please remember
that.  Thank you for replying.

your words echo true my friend. . . it all starts inside. . . always. . .

wonderfully done. . . from the heart. . .

This is so heartfelt. Yes, many of us have felt like this at different times. I always find that friends are the best when I'm feeling down on myself. They remind me of my good points, and when I see myself surrounded by so many wonderful people, I realize that I can't be too bad

Don't beat yourself up about the mistakes you may have made. Mistakes are what makes us stronger, and brings us to where we are today. Take care of yourself and live life as best you can. And cut yourself some slack sweet lady

If this isn't a poem then I'm not a reader of poetry.  This is simply one of the best I've ever read!  I mean that, sincerely.

This was a heartfelt cry that many could have voiced.  You know this child now, and are listening so it is never to late. Your last lines are the best advise given in this wise writing, - write out the emotions bottled up somewhere, if not poetry, on a paper bag, but write them, own them, and feel them.  This was a fantastic healing and feeling piece.
